Is This The Right Class???

Yall, it's already the second week of school. On two occasions I've encountered ppl asking "What class is this?" and genuinely it baffles me. One of my first classes last week, a guy came into lecture like an hour late. Decides to sit right in front of my chair (while there were plenty of other seats open too btw...). He turns and whispers to me, "what class is this?". And I'm thinking, what the hell how you not know? More importantly, did you just walk into a random class just cuz? or like? So I whisper back telling him what class it was. He waits for my professor to take a pause in his talking and then he gets up and leaves the class. Inside I'm highkey laughing lmao, like what just happened.

Fast forward to today, second class of the semester. This girl walks into lecture also an hour, hour and a half late. Based on the placement of the door, everyone can see her enter lol. So she comes in, stops right in front of the classroom asking the teacher, "Is this 103? 101?". And the teacher, being stopped mid lecture lmao, goes quietly "yes, this is 101". Again, in my head I'm like, theres no way. Not only did you basically disrupt the whole class, but what???? How do people not know what class they're in? I mean I get that I'm a very type a person but man, zero preparedness ig? On top of that, this class has mostly maybe 3rd or 4th years of college students. So I feel like, we kinda get the gist of how school words (I'D HOPE). Honestly, maybe I really am making a big deal out of this but it just makes me so confused I wanna laugh. What do yall think? lol

Also, this was highkey me last week during syllabus day. I am quite literally taking a packaging class lol. We spent 15 mins watching a documentary of how tomatoes were processed and packaged. My major is so silly sometimes.

Urbex Diaries (#1)

"Urbex" - urban exploration, the hobby of visiting man made abandoned places...

Last night I went out with two friends to go explore this abandoned train. From the tik toks, this place seemed sooooo cool. Based on our experience, we had a bit of a rocky journey as we were trying to figure out where the train was. First we circled around the old train station, but there were cameras and a lot of signs warning us of trespassing so we decided to bail lol. Then after like an hour of walking in a circle/around the other trains, we finally found the train we were looking for. It was so
diva train <3
beautiful.
Highkey, someone, probably even a few days ago, had just painted a new piece of cheetah print art all over it. Based on the videos we saw online and when they were posted, it was actually crazy to see how much the area has changed with visitors... As we approached closer, we kinda noticed there was a car blocking the entrance to the train. MIND YOU the whole area is fenced off in an open area, so how the freak did the car get there????? #creepy If the car wasn't there, we would've explored it but sometimes you gotta know when to bail T-T. I think I like exploring these places more from an art perspective because I think graffiti is very interesting. Both as self expression but also creativity. I'm more of a chicken when it comes to the "being fearless" or getting caught part LOL. If any of you decide to urbex, please do your research and explore safely!!! Also enjoy these cool pics I got (click to view them clearer) <3

the sunset, chefs kiss
I've never seen people making graffiti art live before, very cool

Yearning for Chamber Music

Lately, I've been yearning so much for a good chamber music group to play with. I haven't played cello period in quite a few months, oops. I really miss the days where I used to go to a music school and there would be other kids my age, we would make amazing music together everyday (soooo taken for granted).

 ˖ ݁♬⋆.˚𝄞. ⋆˚. ♪

If you aren't into classical music, I would totally suggest listening to some of my favorite pieces (I've played every single one of these!!):

1. Villa-Lobos - Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1

I'm a bit biased, but this is one of my favorite pieces I've played like ever. Why? It's written for 8 cellos! A very rare and unique piece. I prefer the second movement the most because it sounds very bittersweet.

2.  Borodin - String Quartet No. 2"

This Borodin string quartet is very popular. It was actually written as a love letter to his wife, Ekaterina Protopova. The first movement is very delicate, but you can definitely hear the love pouring out in the third movement as well.

3. Dvorak - "American" String Quartet

Another very popular string quartet. Dvorak, pronounced like deh-vor-zhak, wrote this piece a year after moving to New York. I think the melody in the first movement is quite interesting. The main motif just sounds fun to me. In the second movement, the best part is at time stamp 12:00. You can hear the intense pain in sadness throughout the piece but also something that kind of feels like relief.

4. Mendelssohn - String Octet in E flat major, Op. 20

Yet another iconic piece, you don't come across octets as much in chamber music but this is probably the most well known one. When I played this piece, not only was it fun to almost act like 2 quartets playing at the same time but also simultaneously in certain parts (idk how to explain it lol). The first movement's character is very proud and then towards the fourth movement it feels more carefree.

5. Dvorak - Piano Quintet No. 2, Op. 81

This piece takes you on such a crazy journey honestly. I lowk don't even know how to describe it because it feels so intense to follow the story the music tells you. #banger

6. Grieg - String Quartet No. 1, Op. 27

This one is ACTUALLY crazy intense. The character of this piece is very animated as it feels both very direct/hard hitting and youthful. The beginning will blow you away.

7. Turina - Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 76

If you like something more mysterious this piece is for you~. Turina is not actually considered classical because he is a 20th century composer. I'd describe this piece as very colorful and shimmery (specifically the first movement).

8. Mendelssohn - Piano Trio No. 1

In my opinion, this whole piece is very moving. Lowk if you skip to the second movement holy sob fest  (9:47). T-T

9. Smetana - Piano Trio in G minor

Another very fun sounding piece, the first movement definitely requires strong players to convey the feeling of grief and anguish. I also just like this piece because smetana means sour cream LOLLL.

10. Debussy - Piano Trio in G major

Best for last, this piano trio is very romantic!!! Very flowy and young is how I'd describe it. Chat, if y'all read this with your fanfics or wtv, trust, it'll make you yearn. I lurv the first and third movements, however the second one tells a different story to my ears. It feels more like tiptoeing romantically, so sort of cautious or hesitant.

If you would like to see any recordings of my performances, feel free to email me and I'll send you a link!

First day of school yay… Technically first day of senior yr in college but I have an extra semester. So would that make me a “fifth year” by the time I graduate? Hmm 🤔

Derry Girls

Finally started watching Derry Girls on Netflix and omg this show is so freaking funny. It's a little hard to understand Irish/English slang but slowly I'm learning new words LOL (like craic killer is buzzkill, boke means blech/ew). I think Sister Michael is my favorite character. Hoping to visit Derry one day!

Musicals!

I've been in my musical era lately. I just recently watched the Alicia Keys musical Hell's Kitchen and it was SOOOO GOOOD. Let me put yall on sum. The song that made my jaw drop was called Pawn It All. Holy moly, yall aint ready for that. Gag!!!

Divorced, beheaded, died...divorced, beheaded, survived! SIX the musical has been my favorite live Broadway show of all time (so far). I love the beheaded twins sm. I can't even choose a favorite song, the whole album is just amazing. Funniest lyrics award def goes to Don't Lose Your Head.

How do you measure a year? Measure in love. Rent was one of the very first musicals I saw live (performed by my old high school). I love the song Tango: Maureen, it just teases you so well going in between major and minor. As a college student now paying for rent, the song Rent hits harder.

I could also name countless Disney musicals but yall aready know how lit those ones are. :]

New Hobby Rant

^look how pretty these are!!!^
Lowk, I've been getting into rollerblading lately. I think it's really really fun, however starting something new sometimes seems so embarrassing ngl. I bought a pair of cheap blades from Walmart LOL to get me started and I feel like I've gained a bit of confidence. I think I need to be more consistent practice though.

Yesterday night, I actually went to a skating rink. I can't lie, I was a little nervous bc there were so many ppl at open skate. I'm so proud of myself for getting out there though (and not falling in public teehee).

My biggest goal to achieve is to learn how to do backward crossovers confidently. Eventually, the most advanced goal would be to learn how to hydroblade or the toe footgun, but that's gonna be tough...

Once I master how to transition from forward to backward and then backward crossovers, I promised myself I could buy better skates. But for now...stuck with the cheapy ones lol. I wish I had more skate friends :(

Prosciutto and Burrata Sandwich

Bello, this is the recipe for one of my go to meals for lunch! Apart from being so delicious, all these items can be bought at Trader Joses. :P

Ingredients:

Step 1:

First, cut one roll of ciabatta in half and toast it to your liking in the oven. (These will be open faced sandwiches technically)

Step 2:

Take out the ciabatta bread, add two slices of prosciutto to each piece of bread. You can fold them in half so they fit more onto the shape of the bread.

Step 3:

Open the burrata and take one ball out of the packaging. Carefully, use a knife to cut it in half. Place one half of the burrata on top of the prosciutto, the same goes for the other. Spread or pat it down gently with a spoon or thumb so that it's not so rounded upwards.

Step 4:

Add a small drizzle of oil on top of the burrata (not too much or you'll be groggy after eating). Add salt and pepper to your liking.

Step 5:

Boom, eat that. #scrumptious

Sometimes, I like to eat this with a side of tomatoes (tomatoes + shallot + vinegar + salt + pepper)

So!YoON! Songs

One of my favorite artists is Hwang So-Yoon. She is formerly from the band Se So Neon but she also makes her own music on the side. Here are two songs you should def check out by her:

LOVE (a secret visitor)

"What kind of love do you feel the most right now?"

This song's lyrics feature abstract emotions about the coexistence of both love and fear.

"Experiencing love towards you for the first time where ones I've never known before. The presence of you was so precious, but at the same time, the fear and anxiety were overwhelming."

BAD

"It's a story that breaks the ambiguous boundary between virtual and reality."

In contrast, this other song, Bad, talks about hookup culture. The lyrics captivate chase or lust, "too many is not enough". Other things I noticed were that there's an idea of feeding from old love to finding new love, an endless cycle of encounter. As there is no commitment -> no one belongs to another but rather "each other".

"How can we visually express the diverse relationships of love in a way that is well represented? And this characters loneliness, I think it valued some kind of power."

These songs are from SoYoons' album titled Episode1: Love, however her first album So!YoON! is also worth listening to.

Y2K Beats

bello minions,

Welcome to my blog! If you noticed, there's a little mp3 player as one of my gadgets! If you click the icons, the music will play throughout your device. I chose 12 songs but it doesn't nearly span my whole music taste. Most of these fall under a 2000s beat imo. I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do!

⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊⊱·✶·⊰₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹

1. Make Up - The Deep

I like this song bc it kinda feels like im in the clerb.

2. Girl Like Me - PinkPantheress

One of my top artists! PinkPantheress is so genius with her samples.

3. I Choose You - f5ve

My flip phone era, f5ve is slowly rising in popularity. Stream to help them grow!

4. What Time Is It? - Crystal Kay

Iconic blasian artist from the 2000s, honorable mention m-flo.

5. Sweet Friends - Crystal Kay

6. Built This way - Samantha Robinson

From the movie Mean Girls, this song gives me autumn vibes but I'll listen to this anyday.

7. Gonna Get This - Hannah Montana

I grew up watching the goat Hannah Montana. If this isn't my favorite song, it would have to be If We Were A Movie.

8. Something To Dance For - Zendaya

Also loved watching Shake It Up as a kid.

9. If I Never Knew You - The Cheetah Girls

Disneymania was like peak childhood music for me, honorable mention is If I Didn't Have You sung by Mitchel Musso and Emily Osment.

10. Saving Flowers - Rina Sawayama

Ugh Mother, she needs to hop back into the studio ASAP.

11. Going Crazy - Twice

My favorite artist of all time, I can't even pick a favorite title track but this has to be my favorite song out of their whole discography.

12. Hard To Say - Karencici

Karencici is a bit more underground. Something about her use of synths are nostalgic to me!

⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊⊱·✶·⊰₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹

Let me know in the comments what yall think of these songs!

Food Recs (Vancouver, BC)

If you like Cantonese cuisine, this post is for you!

Recently, I visited Canada and ate a lot of great food. Here are some recommendations if you ever decide to visit Vancouver:

1. Lido Bakery - 4231 Hazelbridge Way

This bakery is known for their Hong Kong style breakfast. This includes popular foods like pineapple buns with butter, rice porridge, milk tea, and more. In my vlog, I ordered porridge, an egg tart, a pineapple bun (without butter), and a yuen yeung (yeen yerng). This drink includes both coffee and milk tea together, it's very delicious.

2. HK BBQ Master - 4651 Number 3 Rd

At HK BBQ Master, you'll have to try the different meat rice plates. My favorite was the duck. The bbq pork called "char siu" I also worth trying. It's very tender and sweet.

3. Bubble Waffle Cafe - 4151 Hazelbridge Way

Located in the food court of Aberdeen Mall, Bubble Waffle Cafe offers a lot of different snacks. My go to order has always been a iced lemon tea, curry fish balls, and fried intestines. The intestines may not be for everyone, but to those who have never tried it, I would describe it as a crunchy outside skin with a chewy savory inside.

4. Double Double Restaurant - 4600 Number 3 Rd unit 128

This restaurant is a pretty basic Cantonese restaurant. I would recommend trying the "bak fan yu" or fried tiny noodlefish. Honestly, you can't even taste the fish but it's very crunchy and goes well with rice. Also worth trying is the long Chinese donuts with rice porridge.

5. Rice Holic - 8700 McKim Way unit 2178

Mango lovers you HAVE to try this place. Rice Holic sells mango mochi the size of half a mango. In one whole slice, the mango is covered with a basic mochi wrap. Visit this place earlier in the day to have fresher mango!

That's all for my Canada food recs for now, leave a comment if you like or want to try Cantonese cuisine!

First Post!

Omg hi my minions, today marks the first day of being 21!!! Yay happy birthday to me! :D

I have no idea what my life has in store for me this year, but I can't wait. Crossing my fingers that life doesn't get too complicated more than it already is lol.

I'm lowk so sleepy today because yesterday I spent the whole day at an amusement park celebrating with my friends and family. I think I got whiplash... My friends and I also played mini golf (I definetly didn't win lmao). We ate so much carnival food I think I need to go on a cleanse the next week. I'm so happy I got to get caramel and cheese popcorn before I left hehe.

I convinced three friends to go on a log ride with me. The rest stayed behind even when I said "It's not that bad, you don't get splashed too much, trust me!". Two of us, including myself, got very wet. My face was drenched, my hair, chest, and thighs were all wet too. Thank goodness it was hot outside. When we met up with the rest of the group, they laughed quoting me "It's not that bad" when I lied LOLLL.

Anyways, so grateful to have such a whimsy fun experience all day.

YAY TWENTYWAAAANN, CAN YOU DO SOMETHING FOR MEEE!
